Pascal
Remodel
The Pascal renovation is a gut remodel of a home purchased with the intent of immediate and extensive updates before new owner occupancy. The pressure was on! Rick and Cindy Black assembled and led the project team. Our contribution was focused on bringing the house up to modern aesthetic and performance standards. With the exception of extensive work adding a timber framed back porch and covered deck, the building forms were generally unchanged. The limestone veneer remained, but new windows, doors, wood siding over a rainscreen, integral stucco, roofing, and gutters were all updated to refresh the exteriors. The biggest impact to the interiors was the arrangement and proportion of new windows and doors to increase natural light and frame the great views. All the interior finishes were updated. The thermal envelope was shifted up to the roof deck to create a conditioned attic for new mechanical equipment and we sealed the building with open cell foam and AeroSeal. We were challenged by the Architect and client to achieve a high level of indoor air quality by virtually eliminating high VOC interior materials and finishes. Our favorite parts of the project were the detailing and craftsmanship that produced exceptional outcomes for the outdoor porch and deck, as well as for the interior staircases. The house has a minimalist and natural elegance, and we enjoyed working with the client and broader project team to make this update happen.
