The “Next Gen Bungalow” is a single-family infill project in the Bryker Woods subdivision of North Central Austin.  While the primary building form is traditional and respectful to its neighbors in both its massing and style, the detailing and finishes lean modern.  The design is very efficient, and there are several unique features in the project.  Interconnected kitchen and dining common spaces are bathed in natural light from above through a ceiling light well with large skylights.  An interior architectural concrete structure separates the dining room from a sunken Den; the concrete massing reads as a partition wall on one side, and serves as the base for custom deep seating on the other.  The house celebrates spaces for the family to connect through its entire linear volume, from the kitchen, dining, den and outside to the back patio.  Three predominant finishes characterize the project and carry from exterior to interior;  long format “Old Texas” Brick, stained natural wood, and architectural plate steelwork.  The interior finishes, hardware and fixtures are high quality and carefully curated.
