German Farmhouse
New Construction
This German Farmhouse inspired design is a warm, comfortable and low maintenance home for a downsizing family. An oversized and relatively flat lot enabled the Architect to minimize tree impact and orient for privacy. We used stem walls in the garages to optimize the floor elevation. This style of farmhouse architecture brings together contrasting and complex roof pitches, as well as varied roofing and siding materials.
For this client, comfortable means rustic with features reminiscent of Texas ranch life. Exposed timber details are pervasive. Radiused mortise and tenon trusses and a dry stack stone fireplace take center stage in the great room. Texas-milled and site finished Mesquite graces the floors. Clear Alder millwork contrasts the steamed milk colored interior walls. Outside, a unique and regionally sourced flagstone clads much of the building. Soffits are constructed of Western Red Cedar and carefully crafted Douglas Fir rafter tails. A unique builder designed rafter design carries the longer porch and patio spans and doubles to conceal electrical work. The outdoor kitchen and bar sit under a builder and owner designed timber-framed Cabana. Behind these rustic finishes, modern conveniences abound. From fine appliances and high efficiency systems, this old world beauty is efficiently heated and cooled. The house includes a number of high performance construction features from our standard unvented attic assembly to high performance mechanical and water distribution systems. The home has advanced security systems, A/V systems, and automated patio screens.
